Brownes In Utopia!
posted: Wed 03-03-2010Taylor Wimpey have confirmed an order with us for drylining apartments in Yorkshire.
Work will commence in several weeks drylining Utopia apartments on Taylor Wimpey's development in Sharp Lane, Leeds.
Managing Director, Mat McAdams, confirms signs indicate that there is some positive movement in the housing market and he says that he believes there will be increasing opportunites towards the end of the year.
Recycling - 24 Trees Saved
posted: Wed 03-03-2010We continue to work positively to reduce our Company's environmental impact. Throughout 2009 all waste paper from our offices was segregated and sent for recyling and we have just received our acomplishment certificate which confirms that recycling our waste saved 24 trees.
£150,000 Investment In Steel Production
posted: Tue 26-01-2010W A Browne this month celebrates 30 years in business with an investment of over £150,000 to expand their light steel frame manufacturing capability.
2010 begins with the purchase of a third steel rolling machine for the manufacturing facility in Billingham allowing the company to produce load bearing steel stud in 75, 100 and 150mm gauge. This rapid and sustainable construction alternative is gaining momentum and to maximise opportunity W A Browne have appointed an agent in the South East. They have just won their first contract for apartments in Chiswick.
Mat McAdams, Managing Director explains “There are small signs that the housing market is picking up but the heady days of the noughties are well behind us. Firms have to invest, diversify and respond to change to be successful. We are already exporting both steel frame and labour to Cape Verde, Portugal and are in discussions with clients in France and Antigua. We are pricing a number of projects in the South of England which I believe will help us safeguard and eventually create jobs here in the North East.”
Another Award Success!
posted: Tue 01-12-2009The Enviro Excellence Award Scheme has been designed to help businesses improve their business practices and demonstrate to stakeholders their credentials. We are delighted to have been awarded the Bronze Award.
W A Browne recognises and accepts its responsibility to effectively manage and address the key environmental issues created by and impacting on our business.
Our Health and Safety Manager, David Morland, is currently undertaking his Environmental Practitioner qualification and our buyer holds level 2 Environmental Awareness accreditation. We have set up systems to monitor our energy usage and are working through a number of initatives including waste segregation, motion activated lighting in our factory/warehouse facility, recycling of steel and pallets and installation of a new boiler at Head Office.
We now have the bit between our teeth and are hoping to achieve ISO14001 accreditation during 2010.

Liveryman Mat Joins Lord Mayors Parade
posted: Tue 17-11-2009The appointment of Nick Anstee as the 682nd Lord Mayor of London was celebrated on Saturday November 14th with the annual Lord Mayors Parade.
Mat McAdams, our Managing Director, was delighted to be invited to take part. As a fellow liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Plaisterers he joined the Plaisterers float and was one of 6100 people who participated in the show.
